I am always surprised at the lack of understanding of so-called “progressive” individuals. For some reason there are some who believe our Forefathers were misguided in their clear desire to create the Electoral College in the Constitution. Yet here we go again with another cry baby wanting to eliminate the Electoral College by replacing it with a popular vote. Yes, Senator Bill Nelson from Florida is on yet another rampage to eliminate the Electoral College. Hasn’t he ever read a history book? Our Forefathers specifically wanted the STATES to elect the President and Vice President, not the general public. Senator Nelson, go read a history book and learn a lesson or two about why the forefathers felt so strongly on the subject.

Thanks David. I reckon I simplified what I thought was obvious. William Kimberling explains it best, “The function of the College of Electors in choosing the president can be likened to that in the Roman Catholic Church of the College of Cardinals selecting the Pope. The original idea was for the most knowledgeable and informed individuals from each State to select the president based solely on merit and without regard to State of origin or political party.” I recommend reading Mr. Kimberling’s document entitled, “The Electoral College,” and available in its entirety at http://www.fec.gov/pdf/eleccoll.pdf.
