I was conversing with a fellow employee a couple days ago regarding the FairTax. During the conversation I defended some of the simple premises of the FairTax, among them the riddence of double-taxation and a more equitable solution to tax everyone (including foreign visitors and illegal aliens), the helping of the poor, and the ultimate “sayonara” to the IRS. I was astonished to hear his reply. He immediately went on the defensive saying the FairTax would never make headway “because of one of [my] favorite deductions.” I was appalled and I knew immediately what he was referring to, my church donations. He was actually standing there telling me that my concept of the FairTax would never work because *I* wanted my tax deduction. Get real. It simply amazes me how someone will sit there on the sideline and tell me what *I* really think. I told him squarely that I full heartedly approve of this change including the loss of my tax deductions. Isn’t that the premise? To anyone out there who simply doesn’t get it, the FairTax would virtually eliminate all these lobbying groups that are trying to get their piece-meal tax deductions passed in Congress from the insurance companies to the oil behemoths. C’mon folks, let’s get onboard with the tax revolution! Visit the FairTax website and sign the Petition to Congress by April 15th!
