I enjoyed a rare opportunity this morning of having a round-table discussion between Lt. Governor Gary Herbert and Utah bloggers, kindly hosted by Lyall Swim at The Sutherland Institute. The Lt. Governor spoke for about an hour about the accomplishments of Utah under the tenure of the current Governor and Legislature. For example Utah experienced 4.5% job […]

When I say “it is finally over,” avid television watchers will already know what I mean. For those who rarely watch TV, let me spell it out. The Writers Guild of America strike is over. Apparently the latest agreement was overwhelmingly supported by most of the writers. Under the new contract the board will get about […]

Serves me right. I normally pay fairly close attention to the various House and Senate bills that pass through the Utah State Legislature, but when it came to the Utah State income tax rate apparently I had a bag over my head. Somehow, likely listening to news on the radio and television, I was under […]

I just came across an excellent tribute to Mitt Romney. Take a few minutes to read Mr. John Mark Reynolds’ words entitled, “When a Gentleman Fails: Mitt Romney Departs the Race.”

I just received an official letter from Mitt Romney (as did all campaign supporters) outlining the highlights of Mr. Romney’s speech yesterday at CPAC. In his letter he reitered his stance with respect to Senator John McCain and the reasoning behind his decision. I believe his remarks to be sincere:
“I disagree with Senator McCain on […]

There is a bill that is trying to be run through the Utah Legislature… silently. Senate Bill 71 (SB71) was introduced by Senator Carlene Walker. The bill is a result of last November’s vote to split Jordan School District into two distinct districts. Interestingly the east siders voted to agree with the split while the west-siders […]

Mitt Romney provided a gracious, “thank you,” just now as he bows out of the race. He indicated we need to “rise to the challenge” to make America greater and to remember the importance of government in improving the economy through lower taxes and cleaning up government waste. “It’s never been only about me,” he […]

I am a seroius fan of cinema. My DVD collection exceeds 600 movies and a regular subscription to Netflix keeps me entertained. To my surprise I received Stardust and Batmin Begins in HD DVD format this morning so decided to take a break from politics for the rest of the day and give Stardust a whirl (and probably a […]

Last night my wife and I were watching Twister Sisters, the show about the sisters who chase tornadoes. Anyway, we really enjoyed the show and were happy with the fact that Utah rarely experiences this particular phenomena. The irony of it all is learning this morning that the South was plagued with severe storms, particularly […]

It is clear. Utah Republicans want Mitt Romney to be their next President. I knew Romney had support in Utah, but with 99% of the precincts reporting the breakdown is absolutely astounding:
Romney 90%
McCain 5%
Paul 3%
Huckabee 1%
The funny thing is that 928 votes were cast for Rudy Giuliani. Are these votes coming from die-hard Giuliani supporters? […]
