What is happening to Ethan Millard on KSL? Tonight he went on and on and on some more about how immigration reform’s hot topic is whether we hear Spanish in public. Huh? No, he wasn’t defending that point of view, rather he went on and on as if this is what anti-illegals think. Then he went on some more about how the states should be waiting for Congress. Did he really suggest we wait? Illegal immigration has been THE hot topic for the last two terms of Congress and nothing has been done at that level. Let me lay it out for you… Utah has no other choice. These are some examples why I need illegal immigration legislation in Utah NOW:
- My hospital bills are more expensive due to illegal immigrants
- My property taxes are more expensive to pay for the schooling of illegal immigrants
- My insurances rates (health and auto) are higher because of illegal immigrants
- My income taxes pay for the roads that illegal immigrants freely drive on
- My income taxes are paying for illegal immigrants who fill the state prisons and city/county jails
Do you see a common theme? The problem with illegal immigration is the burden placed upon the American tax payer. This is an economic problem, not a language problem. And while Congress sits on their butts (especially you Mr. Cannon) Utah economics are being affected, resulting in our State Legislature being forced to do something to address the problem. I for one called my representative and told him that I expected him to pass legislation to encourage illegal immigrants to leave Utah. In the end I agree with Ethan that it is Congress’ responsibility to take care of the border and immigration as a whole, but it is our State Legislature’s responsibilty to take care of us in the meantime.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackAw, come on. Suck up and love your fellowmen. These poor people are only in search of a better life for themselves and their families.
And, of course, they’re all very strong on family. Kindly ignore those whose family strength lies in crime families. And while you’re at it, ignore all of those pushers and those home invasion robberies, etc. And ignore the jackals that keep people in bondage here in the U.S. to get them to pay their transit bill.
If you anti-immigration people were nicer to the illegals, maybe they would hang around for the police to arrive after their drunk driving accidents. All it takes is a little more love and understanding, right?
It has nothing to do with love. It has everything to do with legality. I have a good friend who is a Colombian. I have been trying LEGALLY to get him to visit the United States for eight years. I even provided a notorized affidavit with my signature that says essentially “I will personally pay for his return airfare to Colombia.” The result? He has been denied a tourist visa on all three attempts. Keep in mind that there is an eighteen-month waiting period for each attempt, so obviously this has been a ridiculously long ordeal. My friend is a good-loving family member, too, as you suggest, so why is it that he can’t come here legally for a visit, while the illegals get to stay?
Now if I take your point of view, I guess it’s OK for me to speed on my way to work, because afterall I really love my family and I just want to spend that extra time with them at home. Oh wait, that’s against the law, right? According to your philosophy, I’ll just tell the police officer I love my family and he’ll let me go with a warning. My point is simple, the law is the law. Let illegals leave our borders and get in line just like my Colombian friend.
