OK, after I spilled out my sentiments against Ethan’s opinion last night I have to agree with one comment he made tonight. There is at least one part of SB81 that I believe goes too far. Quoting one of the highlighted provisions, SB81

“makes it a class A misdemeanor for a person to: transport in this state an alien for commercial advantage or private financial gain, knowing that the alien is in the United States in violation of federal law, in furtherance of the illegal presence in the United States…”

This portion of the bill places too much of the burden on the ordinaray citizen and actually creates an environment where citizens will feel compelled to “police” others. The Legislature should remember that they should be creating an environment that discourages illegal immigration, but remember to not create a police-state in the process.
