I am thrilled to see airlines (particularly American Airlines) taking the initiative to thwart the latest type of terrorist attacks from shoulder-mounted weapons systems. Apparently they are gearing up three of their Boeing 767s to test out the new system. Even more interesting would be to watch the system during testing. You can read about it at AVweb.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackDuring the last presidential election cycle I was riding my bike along a stretch of road a few miles from the MSP airport. I knew A1 was going to be arriving there that afternoon but I didn’t think much about it. As I was climbing a hill on hwy 13 I saw the president’s plane pass within a half mile in front of me.
I was mostly surprised by how exposed the plane was to anybody who may have had some sinister intent. There were no security vehicles around nor much of any traffic for that matter.
I’m sure this is not an uncommon situation at many airports around the country.
