Who likes the IRS? Who thinks the IRS is fair? Who thinks the IRS is legal? These are all interesting questions. For several years now I have been an avid supporter of a flat tax, a system that represents itself fairly across the span from the poor to the rich. That was until now. In the last sixty days I have come to the knowledge of the Fair Tax, H.R. 25 — What an amazing “out of the box” idea! Some facts presented by the Fair Tax team:
–Eliminates the IRS, entirely
–Eliminates Social Security Tax for employers AND employees
–Eliminates Medicare Tax for employers AND employees
–Eliminates capital gains, self-employment, estate, and gift taxes
–Eliminates double taxation (such as paying social security & medicare taxes, then paying federal tax on the amount you paid them already)
–Eliminates all individual tax returns
–Prevents the government from shuffling higher costs/breaks from one industry to the next
–American workers receive 100% of their paycheck (less state income taxes for states who impose an income tax)
–All Americans share the tax burden by paying an even 22 to 23% federal sales tax
–American receive a “prebate” check from the Government to pay for essential goods and services
–There are 60 legislative co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives as of May 9, 2007Â (that’s 13.8% of the House already in favor of it)
–Non-American tourists and illegal aliens would contribute to the federal tax system, therefore eliminating the illegal alien drain on our government funds
–The U.S. would become the world’s largest tax haven for direct international investment
