I sat in my family room stunned this evening listening to KSL (NBC affiliate) reporter, Debbie Dujanovic, rage on about how the U.S. Death Index is injuring the common public. Debbie said, “There are some ways to protect yourself and your family members, dead or alive from identity theft.” Dead? Did she really just say that? You mean protect my deceased grandparents from identity theft? Oh brother. Let’s fix the real problem, like come up with a Social Security numbering system that actually provides an alphanumeric system where it will be very difficult for someone to fake a valid number, similar to the CD keys that are required to unlock software appilcations. Quit wasting our time, Debbie, on useless information and address real issues.

KSL? What be this… KSL…?
KSL is the local NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City. KSL covers all of Utah and portions of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming.
No offense to The Chad, but CD keys are so easy to figure out and fake it is not even silly. We will need 128 bit PGP keys tattooed on our left calf in bar code format and even then it will be iffy.
You have a point Juanbob.
